Postdocs

Marc Foster, Postdoc Researcher. Marc received his PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Environmental Chemistry, where his dissertation was on the biodegradation of polyester plastics. His research aims to better understand the biotransformation of pollutants to inform more sustainable usage of industrial chemicals. In his free time, he enjoys staying active through running, hiking, and swimming, doing ceramics, and entertaining his cat, Momo.

Marc joined the group in July 2026. He is leading projects on plastics, with a particular focus on understanding the biotransformation of plastic additives and polymer-additive-micorbes interactions with microbial communities. In the group, he is investigating plastic processing and material fabrication with environmental microbiology to develop controlled plastic systems for studying the fate of plastic-associated chemicals and the ecology of the plastisphere.
